Georgia Economy, Georgia Government

The Georgia economy is very prosperous. One of the reasons why it is so thriving is help from the Georgia Government. The Georgia department of Agriculture provides services and regulatory functions to promote agriculture and consumer interests. Georgia has one of the biggest agricultural outputs, helping its economy. The Georgia government helps regulate those agriculture outputs. Atlanta also has a big effect on the Georgia economy, bringing in a great deal of tourism to the state. Georgia government exports, jobs and foreign investment also have a big impact on the Georgia Economy. These factors help the Georgia economy immensely and keep it thriving.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture was established in 1874 and has almost 700 employees under the leadership of the Commissioner of Agriculture, Tommy Irvin. There are five unites within the department; Administration, Animal Industry, Consumer Protection, Plant Industry and Marketing.

The Georgia government has an effect on the Georgia economy. If the Department of Agriculture regulates the areas it should properly, then in turn more citizens are likely to be satisfied, and the Georgia economy will keep a steady flow. The Department of Agriculture monitors food warehouses, processing plants, animal health, gasoline quality and pump calibration, antifreeze, grocery and convenience stores, pet dealers, weights and measures, domestic and international marketing, pesticides, pest control, meat processing plants, plant diseases and nurseries, fertilizers and lime, potting soil, bottled water and many other agricultural products. This Georgia government division is one of the most important in the state. Every Georgian is served by the Department of Agriculture. As long as they are intensely committed to providing superior agriculture products, service and leadership, the Georgia economy will benefit. Another great boost for the Georgia Economy is its exports.

The Georgia government keeps track of Georgia’s metropolitan exports. Only in the first half of 2007, Sandy Springs-Marietta, a metropolitan area of Atlanta, exported $6.0 billion in merchandise. That was 57 percent of Georgia’s total merchandise exports. Other major metropolitan areas in Georgia exported great amounts of products. Savannah exported $1.1 billion and Dalton exported $239 million. All together the Georgia government’s export shipments of merchandise in 2007 totaled $23.4 billion. Georgia ranked 14th among the 50 U.S. states in export value in 2007. The Georgia economy depends on world markets and is thriving because of its exports. Another major factor boosting the Georgia economy is travel.

Georgia has major tourist attractions including state parks, national forests and parks, and other historic areas such as President Jimmy Carter’s home and MLK Jr.’s gravesite. Convention facilities and hotels in downtown Atlanta also bring in plenty of money for Georgia. In 2002, over 42 million travelers spent almost $24 billion on trips to Georgia. Along with the Georgia government, the travel industry employs millions of people, helping Georgia’s economy. The Georgia government knows how to handle its divisions and abides by the laws. Georgia’s economy has been doing tremendously well due to the fact that the Georgia government has been regulating the state efficiently. The citizens of Georgia are being employed thanks to industries such as agriculture and travel and Georgia will continue to prosper.
